Caoimhe de Fréin is a creative force and I was delighted to collaborate with her on her brand, DEFRÉIN, with my SHINE Portraits and Content . Her inspiring mantra, “We only have one wild and precious life,” reflects her bold approach to both business and life.
Caoimhe first discovered vision boards in 2019 while working as a data leader in the tech industry. Initially skeptical, she soon realized the power of visualisation, which led to the creation of DEFRÉIN and her transition into a career as a Life Design Coach.
“But when I created my first vision board, I embraced the process - and that simple A3 collage mapped out my goals and dreams for the year ahead.”

From Data Leader to Visionary: Caoimhe’s Journey
Caoimhe’s story is not just about changing careers - it’s about intentionally designing a life that aligns with her passions. Through self-discovery and vision-setting, she mapped out a path from the tech industry to becoming a Life Design Coach.

Caoimhe is a testament to this process. When she created her first vision board, she unknowingly outlined the future of DEFRÉIN - a sustainable jewellery brand that later gained recognition in The Irish Times and Irish Country Magazine.
For years, she balanced a full-time job, running DEFRÉIN, and raising three children. Then, in 2023, she took a leap of faith, leaving her tech career behind to fully embrace the vision she had once only dreamed of.
She also made another bold decision: stepping away from jewellery when it no longer sparked joy, choosing instead to pursue her true passion - helping others design lives they love.
Capturing Caoimhe’s Brand Story Through Photography
Caoimhe’s journey and values - rooted in bravery, community and creativity - shaped the vision for her portraits. To bring her brand and personal evolution to life, we captured a mix of studio and outdoor shots, creating a dynamic and authentic visual narrative.
Before investing in brand photography, Caoimhe often felt embarrassed when asked for headshots, realising she lacked images that truly represented her and DEFRÉIN. She needed photography that embodied her values—bravery, community, creativity, grit, joy, and realness.
“The photos have had a huge impact on the business. I no longer hesitate when someone asks me to send them a headshot. I have at least 10 headshots to share that really capture the essence of the business. ”
